Build Claude Skills For Real Estate
You build a Claude Skill by doing a task once with Claude, then asking Claude to save the process. A skill is a saved set of instructions Claude follows every time you run the same task. Do the work once. Reuse the work forever.
You write the same follow-up text 20 times a week. You start listing descriptions from a blank page. You rebuild the same CMA summary before every appointment.
Each task feels small. Together, they eat your week.
I watched Ben, a founder who runs an AI agency, break down Anthropic's own advice on building skills. Here's what matters for agents, in plain English.
What is a Claude Skill?
A Claude Skill is a saved set of instructions Claude uses to finish one task the same way every time. Think of a skill as a written playbook for one job, like "write a listing description." You run the skill, and Claude follows your steps, your tone, and your rules.
No coding required. If you've ever trained a new assistant, you're ready.
How do you build a Claude Skill as a beginner?
The easiest way to build a Claude Skill is to do the task with Claude first, then turn the finished chat into a skill. Anthropic's guidance says to complete the task without a skill first. As you work, you share your preferences without trying. Claude captures all of them when you ask for the skill.
Most of us are bad at describing our process. We're great at doing the process.
So skip the long prompt. Do the job. Then type: "Turn this into a skill."
Claude also offers Record a Skill. Open the + menu in the Claude desktop app, record your screen, and talk through the task. Claude turns the recording into a skill. Anthropic launched the feature on July 21, 2026, for Pro, Max, and Team plans.
Show Claude the work. Don't describe the work.
What are the rules for better Claude Skills?
Better Claude Skills come from five habits: do the task first, keep each skill small, add examples, keep improving, and ask for options. Anthropic's guides and Ben's experience point to the same pattern. Small, focused skills with real examples beat big, vague ones every time.
- Do the task once, then save the process. Real work beats a perfect prompt.
- Keep each skill small. Anthropic says focused skills work better together than one large skill. Build "draft the follow-up text" first. Build "log the note in my CRM" as a second skill later.
- Add examples. Paste in three to five of your best past outputs. Ben says copywriting skills sometimes need up to 20.
- Keep improving the skill. Test each version in a fresh chat. When Claude misses, add a rule.
- Ask for options. Have the skill give you three versions at each review step. Picking one beats rewriting one.
Your first version won't be perfect. Your fifth will feel like a trained assistant.
How can real estate agents use Claude Skills?
Real estate agents use Claude Skills to turn weekly, repeat tasks into one-step workflows. The best candidates follow the same steps every time: lead follow-up, listing marketing, CMA prep, and past-client check-ins. If you've done a task three times this month, the task is ready to become a skill.
- Lead follow-up: Paste a new lead's message. Get three replies in your voice.
- Listing marketing: Paste property details. Get an MLS description, social caption, and email.
- CMA prep: Paste your comps. Get a one-page pricing story for the seller.
- Past-client nurture: Get monthly check-in drafts with a personal note for each client.
- Investor deal analysis: Paste a listing. Get the numbers checked against your buy box.
Solo agents gain the most because they handle every task alone. Team leads build one skill, and every agent follows the same process. Brokers use skills for recruiting outreach.
What task did you repeat three times last week?
What's a 30-minute first step?
- Pick lead follow-up.
- Open Claude. Paste a real lead message with names and numbers removed.
- Correct Claude until the reply sounds like you.
- Type "Turn this into a skill."
- Tomorrow, test the skill on a new lead in a fresh chat.
What are the limits?
Claude makes mistakes. Read every output before you send it. Add a Fair Housing rule to marketing skills: describe the property, never the people. Keep client names, phone numbers, and financial details out unless your brokerage approves the tool.
What to do this week
- Pick one repeat task you dread.
- Do the task with Claude, then type "Turn this into a skill."
- Add three of your best past examples.
- Fix one rule after every miss.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to code to build a Claude Skill?
No. You do a task with Claude and ask Claude to save the process. Claude writes the skill file for you.
What is Claude's Record a Skill feature?
Record a Skill lets you record your screen and talk through a task. Claude turns the recording into a reusable skill. The feature lives in the + menu of the Claude desktop app for Pro, Max, and Team plans.
How many examples should a Claude Skill include?
Start with three to five of your best past outputs. Examples teach Claude your tone and format faster than written descriptions.
